MITZNER FARMS is a fifth generational family-owned agricultural operation located in Wanatah, Indiana.
WE SPECIALIZE IN raising grain, vegetables, and livestock products. We take great pride in raising our products in Northwest Indiana and providing our customers with nothing less than high quality, locally-grown products.
JEFF AND ANDREA are the owners of Mitzner Farms. Jeff began farming in 1988 after purchasing his first 40 acre parcel. Since then, the operation has expanded and they now farm close to 2,000 acres. In 2005, Jeff and Andrea received the Farm Bureau National Young Farmer Award.
Jeff is a 1988 LaCrosse High School graduate. After graduation, he attended Manchester University for one year. While at Manchester, he played on the men’s basketball team. Wanting a change of pace, Jeff then attended Purdue University and participated in the Agriculture Short Course. Jeff returned to Wanatah to pursue his dream of running his own farming operation.
Andrea was a 1993 graduate of South Central High School. She participated in 4-H for nine years where she showed cattle, pigs, and sheep. Andrea met Jeff her senior year of high school, and they married in 1996.
In addition to having two children, they are very active in their communities. Jeff is a member of the Wanatah Conservation Club, the Cass-Clinton Fire Department, Salem Church Cemetery Board, Cass Township Advisory Board, was a basketball coach for numerous years, and also served two terms on the LaPorte County Fair Board. Andrea is the leader of the Cass Merrymakers 4-H Club, a member of the Farm Bureau Board, 4-H Council, LaPorte County 4-H Swine Committee and the project superintendent for the scrapbooking project. Jeff and Andrea are both members of Salem United Church of Christ in Wanatah.
JANELLE MITZNER, 24, was a 2017 graduate of South Central High School where she was involved with National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA and athletics. Janelle was also a ten year member in 4-H where she participated in many different projects, with her favorites being pigs, sheep and cattle.
She graduated in 2021 from Purdue University with a degree in Agricultural Sales and Marketing. After graduation, she relocated to Tipton, Indiana where she works as a Field Sales Marketing Coordinator for the largest family-owned seed brand in the country, Beck's Hybrids.
In addition to helping work cattle at home, Janelle does all of the marketing and advertising for Mitzner Show Cattle, Mitzner Meats, and Mitzner Farms.
JAMES "JAYE" MITZNER, 20, was a 2019 graduate of LaCrosse High School where he was involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA, LaPorte County Leadership, and athletics. He was also a ten year 4-H member and participated in the cattle, swine and sheep projects. He is now a member of the LaPorte County Swine Committee.
Jaye is a senior at Purdue University where he is majoring in Farm Management. He will also be receiving a minor in Animal Nutrition. He is currently the herd manager of Mitzner Show Cattle where he is in charge of pairing our females with appropriate sires to produce quality calves to pursue success in the show ring and finish an acceptable product on the rail.
After graduation, Jaye plans to return to the family farm to continue growing their show cattle business and run the row crop business.
